Upcoming KLAX superfeed - need SoCal sector info
« on: February 26, 2013, 01:32:13 PM »
Trying to finalize frequency breakdown on our upcoming KLAX superfeed.  Need some help from those intimately familiar with how SoCal sectors are typically divided up.

This setup is expandable to at least 3-4 more radios but we're not doing that to start.  We may add some later.

Radio 1 Tower North 133.900 (fixed)
Radio 2 Tower South 120.950 (fixed)
Radio 3 Ground (121.650/121.750) (scanning)

How to divide the following two radios?
Radio 4 Approach 124.500 124.900 128.500 128.550
Radio 5 Departure  124.300 125.200

Radio 6 ZLA 132.850 125.800 132.600

Thanks,
Dave

Just post them here.  Tomorrow will be too late.  We can make changes later but most of this is getting burned in today.

Not looking for comments about adding radios, etc - just specifically about the SoCal Approach breakdown.

Either way it isn't super-critical, but looking for someone with good knowledge of the airspace preferably.

124.50 - Zuma.. Works west arrivals
128.50 - Stadium North Final
124.90 - Downey South Final
128.55 - SFRA Uncontrolled, air to air only

124.30 - Manhattan -  Dep to Sw thru Ne
125.20 - Malibu -   Dep W to N

As for how you split them, Maybe Zuma and both departures on one scan, then Stadium and Downey on the other.. SFRA isn't that exciting..

Also, see if you can get 124.05, which is east feeder

Thanks, Mike!

I have no issue getting rid of SFRA...it's not like it's D.C.  :-)

That sounds like a reasonable plan...we can juggle later, but that will probably work fine.

If anyone else has any input please post.

Thanks,
Dave

Maybe a bit overkill, but if possible (distance may be a problem), you could include KHHR, just to complete the full transition of the mini route. It traverses through KSMO's Class D, through the KLAX Class B over the tower, then exits in KHHR's Class D. KSMO is covered, but there isn't anything past the south side.

I just took out my charts that I have for LAX and the 4 approach frequencies ar 128.5---From the North,124.9---From the South,124.5----From the West, and 124.05---From the East.

Departures are Handled on 125.2 to the NW and 124.3 to the S-NE. I am not sure and have not confirmed usage of 134.9

Low altitude Center I have as 132.85,132.6,135.5,133.75,126.35, and 125.275 feeding in and out of LAX

North south tower on one radio.  Final approaches on one radio.  Departures on 1 radio.  Not making it more.  Making it easier to keep track of.  That kind of set-up would do, Dave.

The Towers will be separate on this setup.  And there will be a third feed that combines them in stereo.  And we already have a great LAX feed that scans the Towers.

We will have: 132.85, 132.6, 125.8 on one radio.  That is all for ZLA for right now.  Ground transmitters for 135.5, 133.75, 126.35 and 125.275 are too far away from our receiver site.  Those three are enough for now.  If we get volunteers near the other areas we can cover them.

We can hear 133.75 in Palm Springs but it sounds like it is combined with another sector much or some of the time.  Have not heard aircraft there yet, but we could have been listening at the wrong time.  This test was on a weekend, when a lot of combining happens.  Same with the mids.

FYI 133.75 is linked up with 126.35. Would there be a chance in getting 119.95 up on the center radio?

No.  Transmitter not anywhere within range.

Three freqs on the ZLA radio is more than enough.

Dave,

Good frequency selection for Radio 4 Approach and Radio 5 Departure.

I verified the above Approach and Departure frequencies except for 128.550 near Santa Monica Airport. Radio reception was loud and clear.

When the superfeed comes up should I kill the current lax feed?
When will it be up?

Definitely not!  We don't yet know how good the reception will be, for sure.  We did some tests and they were good, but you never know.  Secondly, things go wrong.  Feeds can go down.  Backup is good.
Your Tower feed is likely to be more popular since it scans all Tower freqs.

I will email you today.
