Title: UA 297 on 12-17

UA 297 LAX - LIH per Flightaware did about three hours of circles over the pacific before returning to LAX.  Any ideas?

This flight departed KLAX on its way to Hawaii.  Obviously, something forced them to turn around and come back to KLAX.  The time they spent circling most likely was to burn off fuel to bring the aircraft to an acceptable landing weight before coming back to KLAX.  There might be something in the audio archives regarding this event.  No guarantees though as there is limited liveatc coverage in that area.
