Why do they depict the two planes flying in formation and then show the graphic of the separation of 200 vertical and 1.7 miles horizontal?  :?  Typical media crap!

I agree the video was a bit misleading but this was an OE on the controller.  They were almost at the minimum separation requirements as it was and then a wrong heading was issued causing one aircraft to cut in front of the other... at which point 3 miles disappears pretty quickly.

I didnt hear them say 'formation'. Watching the linked video, I thought they represented the story ok. They mentioned a 'pre-determined flightpath' not formation. Which would seem accurate to me. Sure, they are not controllers, but I thought they conveyed the general gist....

It shows that in tight, heavy airspace, you REALLY have to be on the darn ball!!! (both pilots AND controllers)
