Title: TuneIn Radio iPhone App
Post by: bbrasmussen on October 14, 2012, 08:36:31 PM
At the suggestion in another thread, I downloaded the TuneIn Radio app.  It seems the majority of the time I try to connect to a LiveATC feed it gives an error: Server Response:Forbidden.  Any suggestions on how to get it to work with LiveATC? I really like the app because I can combine ATC and other types of feeds in one favorites list.

I have the same problem on my iPhone. A theory I have is that it's actively blocking iOS from tuning the feeds without the native LiveATC app (to increase revenue), but I like to think that LiveATC is nicer than that. I'm going to do some packet captures and investigate further exactly what's going on.

There was some abuse from TuneIn so it was blocked a while ago..we will revisit removing those blocks.

Why do people always assume the worst?  We have had a free mobile site (m.liveatc.net) for a while.

First of all, we all owe Dave a big "thank you" for the existence of this site.  Also, all of the people who volunteer

their time and effort to supply the feeds.  If it weren't for them, you wouldn't be able to listen to atc from hundreds

of airports all around the world.  Secondly, the app doesn't cost much more than a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I think

that's a pretty good deal - it's the best $3 I've ever spent.  Finally, this whole thing is a labor of love - by and for

aviation enthusiasts.     So........    thank you, Dave

I see TuneIn is working. Thanks. Someone in another thread suggested using it because of its ability to record in app. Kind of handy. I can also add other custom streams and listen to those with the functionality of the app.

That said, I love the LiveATC app as well. It's well worth the minimal cost. Thanks again to Dave and his hard work to make this all possible.

Exactly, that's why I didn't think the theory was very plausible. FWIW, I've purchased the LiveATC app multiple times on multiple platforms, and have donated before; I appreciate everything you and all the feed volunteers do and didn't mean to offend anybody.
