Hi All,

I usually like to track SAA204 from JFK-JNB, I can track up to New York Center, however I can only hear the pilot's responses. I can't hear what NY Center is saying.

Does anyone have a link that shows ATC boundaries on this route?
Also, is it possible to listen to the ATC as they cross the Atlantic?

The LiveATC "ZNY New York Center (JOBOC Sector)" feed covers this sector. You should be able to hear the controller there.

Note to LiveATC - the archive function seems to be turned off on this feed. Any chance of getting it back on ?

After New York Center you should be able to hear them get their initial HF frequency assignment from ARINC on 129.90, this is covered on the LiveATC "ARINC (JFK/LGA Area)" feed. There are a few LiveATC feeds that cover some of the New York HF frequencies.

After that the HF frequencies are usually assigned using CPDLC (via SATCOM). You might catch some of their CPDLC transmissions using this site.

There is a worldwide network of tuneable HF radios here that you can use to maybe catch them as they cross each ATC FIR boundary for a selcal check on HF.

Copy the route from flightaware and paste it into the Flight Plan box on Skyvector and it will show the whole route and the ATC FIR boundaries.

Wow, thank you for all that. You just opened up a whole new world to me. I'm not exactly sure how the CPDLC works, nor the HF tuning, but I will figure it out with some googling.

Trying to make heads or tails out of the CPDLC database is a challenge.

If you're trying to track a specific flight or aircraft enter the registration in the prefix box (must be in CAPITALS) and it will show all transmissions in the database to or from that aircraft. Keep in mind that not all transmissions are usually captured on any given flight as the aircraft might switch between SATCOM and VHF ACARS/VDL2 or HFDL or switch to a satellite that is not covered.

For example for SAA204 enter ZS-SNI (must be in capitals) in the prefix box and you will find almost complete coverage of this flight across the Atlantic on certain days (satradar24 currently doesn't monitor the satellites covering Africa).

Attached (must be logged into forum to see it) is a text file of edited SATCOM logs from SAA204 on April 7th, most of the flight is covered from New York to the African coast, although there are some messages that were not received or missing.
