TRacking N727QS Van nuys airport
« on: July 31, 2007, 03:50:57 PM »
Hi, and I'm excited to be a new user.

I'm trying to verify accounts that stated a NetJets Gulfstream was on the airfield at Van Nuys airport yesterday at about 11:30a.m., July 30th, Monday.  The tail number is N727QS.  I tried calling Van Nuys airport operations but I can't get through to a live person.  The website aviation tracking services only have a flight for this plane coming from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale, one month ago.

Furthermore, I read on your site that the ATC signal for Van Nuys Airport is looped, somehow, into the Burbank airport signal.  I tried to see if there was an audio file archive for yesterday's traffic, through Burbank's signal, but I got no hits when I searched the ATC website.

Could anyone advise me of a way to figure out the plane's destination and travel times.  Thanks so much!

Ann

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/EJA727/history

Search under EJA727 instead.  They only file under the aircraft tail number when operating outside the U.S.

Looks like it departed Van Nuys for Toronto on July 30th at 11:51am PDT.

At the risk of asking a stupid question (it won't be the first time), where
does the " EJA " come from?

EJA is the the 3 letter code for call sign ExecJet, which is radio telephony for Net Jets.

See the second post in this thread.

wurtzie, As rpd explained, EJA is the 3 letter identifier for NetJets and is used anytime the aircraft operates within the U.S.  They used to only use that identifier when flying "live" or passenger carrying legs in the U.S., but now use it for all legs flown in the U.S.

Does flightaware track filed VFR flights or just IFR? Sorry if a little off topic.

Used to track a few VFRs, but now it appears the site tracks strictly IFR.  I've been told this is not a limitation of FlightAware, but from the FAA in the form of how position updates and other messages are relayed to flight trackers.
