Title: Tower Approach and Departure
Post by: chris1767 on March 15, 2009, 08:06:59 PM
Can someone explain the difference between "tower" "approach" and "departure"? Sometimes when I listen to "tower", I hear them clearing aircraft to land.  I also hear them giving clearance to take off.  Thanks in advance for any explanation.

Someone at Wiki did a pretty good job of breaking down all the positions of a controller and the responsibilities of those positions.  In addition to tower, approach, and departure, you will also read about ground, clearance, and center.
