Title: Tip for those streaming both Tower and Approach....
Post by: uplink on November 04, 2010, 02:23:07 AM
Some feeds have mulitple channels going at a time for only 1 scanner.  For the listener, or for those checking the archives after an incident or crash at an airport, quite often an important transmission is lost because the scanner has moved on, and hung up on an approach, ground or something else.  Often this leads to only speculation, or even confusion as to what the complete exchange was over the radio.

Here something to help "prioritize" your feed:

Instead of programming your scanner in the following way:

CH1.Tower
CH2.Approach N
CH3.Approach W
CH4.Approach E
CH5.Approach S

I do this on my scanner:

CH1.Tower
CH2.Approach N
CH3.Tower
CH4.Approach W
CH5.Tower
CH6.Approach E
CH7.Tower
CH8.Approach S

Because it is on every other channel, the scanner has less chance of missing a tower transmission and getting "hung up".  Of course in a perfect world we would have a split/stereo feed, or multiple people streaming just approach, or just tower in a given area, but hey it's just a hobby, and we'll take whatever we can get.  :-)
