« on: December 03, 2007, 11:49:34 AM »
Can someone please tell me how many miles this antenna can recieve?

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?tabs=n&ModuleNo=29733&ma=sky%20scan%20antenna

I can only hear aircraft which are on approach. The airport is about 20 miles away.

Thank you

Theres no definite way to tell exactly how many miles it will pick up. It all depends on geographic obstacles like trees and buildings. But this will get better reception over a stock antenna definately.

Now thats a funny looking antenna I have never seen before
I think the real question here would be whom are they marketing there product to? looks like it would break off in the wind if on a car and its kind of ugly for one anyway so whats the magnetic mount for ?

I don't think I would recommend any antenna that has a AD like this one and I quote
"which should enhance the reception capability of any radio scanner"

"SHOULD" dose this mean they are not sure? or it has never been tested?

Maybe its just a legal way of saying "Good luck with that!" LOL

And thats my 2cents

oh almost forgot about your ? well from the looks of that thing with no ground plane    << sometimes the look says it all  :-D

I would pick an antenna tuned to the specific band I wanted to receive...
