Thanks to Live ATC
« on: February 15, 2006, 06:41:40 PM »
I probably should have put my message as a new post  rather than tucking it into "Boston"

I am amazed at the progress in electronics since I was a controller at Tokyo and NY ARTCCs way back in the dark ages.

NYC was at Hangar 11 Idlewilde when I was there.

Tokyo was at Johnson AFB just north of the city.

I also did time at Yontan and Naha Towers on Okinawa.

AT NYC I believe there was ONE radar unit in the whole building.

Nowadays I listen to KBTV on a scanner and LiveATC.  I live right near the outer marker and can sit on my porch and check the arrivals for "on time".

Quite a bit of small town action here with F-16Cs at VTANG, and with the Army and AF deployments we've seen a number of C5s, 131s, etc.

Several JetBlue flights per diem as well as United, USAir, and a bunch of connectors whose names change faster than I can keep up.

Thanks to those responsible for LiveATC...soon as I get an extra $$ or two I'll send a donation.

Thanks,

JimVT
