Living near ORD I've noticed they've recently changed the name of Rwy 9R / 27Lto 10 / 28 respectively. I know that they're expanding (new runways), but I waswondering if the new names (without R or L) was something new, perhaps toavoid the possible confusion of similar sounding runways?
In order to accommodate pilots as they adjust to the visual development of the future north runway, the FAA and the City of Chicago have agreed to make the following runway name changes as part of a phased re-designation program:July 5, 2007 - Existing Runway 9R-27L will be renamed Runway 10-28August 30, 2007 - Existing Runway 9L-27R will be renamed Runway 9R-27LJuly 5, 2007 - Existing Runway 9R-27L will be renamed Runway 10-28
