Title: Streaming live atc on cell phone...
Post by: romeoyankee on July 07, 2007, 11:51:18 PM
Hey guys,

Have a question in regards to listening to feeds via cell phone.

I have a blackberry pearl and recently I have found a bunch of programs that lets me stream radio stations and other audio feeds from the internet. I can listen to them through the earpiece, via speaker phone, bluetooth whatever.  Only problem is the .m3u feeds from liveatc.net dont seem to work.

Has anybody gotten the live atc feeds streamed on a cell?  If so how did you do it?

I just think it would be a great feature to have for those times you are at an airport without a scanner or maybe in a new city on business.

Could even have a dedicated page to all the feeds in simple text form to make it easier to navigate.

Just curious if anybody has done this...

Or try http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/okbk

Some MP3 players don't understand the .m3u (playlist) format and don't "do the right thing."  Unfortunately, .m3u is the most accepted destination file extension that just "does the right thing" on most players.

I tried the same on my tmobile dash and i does not stream. I tried everything from typing in the url (all formats: alt, audio, m3u) to clicking on the listen button. Maybe I need to load a different player.

Sounds like your player doesn't support Icecast MP3 streams.

I tried Windows Media Player on my PDA and it won't work..  However, I then downloaded a third party (freeware) player which supports ICECast and now it can stream the audio from this site.

So, now, whenever I have a WiFi Connection I can listen to my favourite feed.

The player I am using is called GSPlayer (google it), for those one who are interested.

I listen to the feeds on a Treo 650 with Pocket Tunes.  Don't believe they have a version for the Blackberry.

Check out this thread for possible leads:
