SFO Using 10's?
« on: January 12, 2009, 10:42:13 PM »
Center controller told a Skywest CRJ to expect 10L into KSFO. Didn't have time to look up on the sfo feed but it sounds like they might be using the 10's tonight...

Yes, they are using the 10's tonight. Three missed approaches in a row at SFO tonight. Delta 25, Redwood 757, and a United 930C due to wind.

Runways switched over here in Oakland too. They are landing on 11.

Yeah I heard that T/O's were on 10L/R.  I also heard a couple of 1L/R landings.  I rushed over to the BART parking lot w/my cam, but they stopped the 1's by then.  The wind was a bit up there from the south.  Pretty nice day today (i.e.: we need rain!).

We had some rare east northeast winds in the bay area today, requiring a few landings on the 1's.  However, the winds switched to the east before long, which is much more common.  I caught the tower feed just in time to hear the FAA mobile vehicles inspecting runways 10L and R before they switched.  They seem to switch to those runways for landing (the 10's and the 1's) as a last resort, only if several missed approaches have occurred.  All of these runways are visual without any type of ILS system.  In fact, despite some east winds, they are already back to using the 28's today, last I checked.

that's not really true about the 10s being just visual. Both of the 10s have dedicated RNAV/GPS approaches, there is a non specific VOR approach, and of course circling approaches would be available also.
