Southwest 2239 Diverted/Engine Failure
« on: October 24, 2011, 03:37:50 PM »
I was on a Southwest flight last night (20-23-2011) and it landed at KORD at 9:00pm. It was diverted from KMDW because of an engine failure. I am having trouble finding the audio. Where would I begin to look? Thanks.

first thing that you want to do is go the the archives.

http://www.liveatc.net/archive.php

So you know what time you landed and what you call sign would be, Southwest 2239. So in the archives, select KORD Tower. Since we don't know which tower they contacted, we will choose all of the towers. Now, since you know that you landed at 9PM, you want to convert that to Zulu time. That will end up being 0100Z on OCT. 24. Now, since all the feeds do not archive right on the hour, it could either be in the 0100-0130Z or the 0030-0100Z. In this case, it was in the 0030-0100Z. Now, where I heard it was at 25:37. You now have the tower audio. Then you have to ask your self how deep do I want to go? It might take a little of work, but you could go back to the approach control and hear some stuff there or you could go the Ground. Maybe there was emergency services called or something you could hear.

There are other source that you could use to help you. One of which is the Aviation Harold.

while they haven't reported it yet, they might give some good information.

hope this helps
