I guess they were just given the passengers an in flight look at what an enigine looks like. I guess they wanted their passengers to have two views, one at the ground, and one at the engine! lol

One man's guess:
Mechanic's post engine maintenance checklist:
1) All tools accounted for.............. verify.
2) Cowling closed and secure......... check.
3) Cowling screws........................ tighten.
4) Cowling closed and secure......... check again.
Mechanic's post engine maintenance checklist from that day:
1) All tools accounted for............ verify.
2) Cowling closed and, uh............
3) get distracted and interrupt routine........ check.
