Airband Yagi for your attic
« on: January 19, 2019, 08:55:47 PM »
As an aviator and a ham, I'm always interested in getting the best quality feed for my listeners, and improving the signal to noise ratio.  Here are some ideas for building a yagi using welding rod and pvc from Home depot or junk lying around your garage.  Be sure and run the feedline from the rear, inline with the boom, and put some snap-on ferrite chokes on your coax at the feedpoint to eliminate common mode noise.  This is an easy way you can get some more gain out of your feed for just a few bucks, and a little work.  I hung mine from the rafters with some zip ties.

..if your not into DIY stuff, here's another way to go for about $100 bucks,  I got about the same signal results as the DIY,  but with less work involved,   you can order these from Arrow Antennas, just go to their portable antenna page, and specify your center freq, and how many elements you want.  The quality of their work is outstanding as you can see from the pics.   Same thing, just hang it up with some zip ties.  Mark  :-D :-D :-D
