My Scanner Woes
« on: March 01, 2008, 08:11:19 AM »
Hey All,

I had a little misshap with my scanner and am wondering what I should do. I left it sitting in my brothers car on the dash board and it kinda got a little hot and has melted some of the plastics. As a result the batteries are stuck in it as the bottom of the unit is warped and the battery cover is well.... stuffed. Do you think I should throw it out and go get a new one?

The scanner still works fine :P

Thanks All

You could maybe post something on radioreference.com and see if anybody has a broken one they would sell you for the case. Then take it apart and transfer it. Otherwise, use it as an excuse to get something new.

Alternatively you could buy an external battery holder, carefully break open the case to remove the batteries and solder the wires from the external battery holder to the battery connections. Fixup the case with duct tape.
Thinking of it... removing the circuits and transferring them to a custom enclosure... It takes some time but will give you a truly unique device.
