Callsign question
« on: October 22, 2007, 01:46:22 UTC »
Heard an aircraft come into an airport near me tonight.  Not listed on FlightAware...heard him cancelling IFR on the ground, though.  Callsign was "Tyson 8".  Any idea what/who this might have been?  I can't find my cheat sheet at the moment.  :-)

I don't know what you found out, I didn't follow the link you posted, but the callsign is a military callsign... probably a fighter.... military callsigns are always a word and a number(s)... I've seen callsigns like "death 3", etc... Sometimes there single, sometimes it's a flight of multiple aircraft in formation.

There are some other flights that use names and numbers...not all military.  Government, but not necessarily military.
