Title: RCAG Sites
Post by: RonR on May 04, 2012, 10:12:48 AM
Something I've always been wondering about: how do the ATC transmissions get routed back and forth between the RCAG sites and the enroute centers?  I once thought it was by a microwave link but I have my doubts about that...

Thanks, Ron

It used to be wireline (telephone) control lines. They used both DC control and audio (tone) control. But nowadays it is probably fiber optic cable. There may be a few microwave links in the remote areas, but the maintenance is a problem with microwave.

Ah, I had a feeling it might be something like that.  At one point I even thought that there might be satellite links involved but sort of ruled that out too.  Thanks K5PAT!
