Title: Quick question
Post by: Beantown on August 18, 2008, 03:20:29 PM
When JFK ATC says "Your traffic is approaching Aqueduct" is that just another way of saying "the race track"?

Thanks,
MB

More than likely, this is a visual reference point related to somewhere in that area.

Over here in Vegas, we hear constantly of "traffic turning base over the stadium" or "traffic over the stadium" for finals into 25L. The "stadium" is Sam Boyd Stadium, which is 7DME out from the field. per SOPs there and for noise abatement, arrivals have to turn base to final at or east of that point, and if departing runway 7L, can't turn until they pass the stadium.

So the Aqueduct is more than likely some reference at N90's airspace that is being used visually.

BL.
