Which Scanner Should I Buy?
« on: November 17, 2008, 10:05:57 AM »
So, I've been considering purchasing a scanner so I can listen to what is going on at O'Hare.  My problem is whether or not I would be able to listen or not.  I live about 50 miles away.  I've used a Friend's scanner and was only able to hear the pilots, not the controllers.  I am also unsure where to begin when looking at scanners.  Does anyone have recommendations or advice?
Thanks!

At 50 miles you will probably never hear controllers unless you are on very high ground relative to ORD.  But depending on where you are you may hear other interesting things (controllers for Chicago Center, for example, depending on where you are).

Many different scanners cover airband.  You can just go on ebay.com and look for "police scanner" or you can buy new from many different sources.  I highly recommend one of our partners Scanner Master - they have a wide variety of scanners, antennas, and accessories.
