Question for Controllers
« on: October 11, 2008, 18:46:58 UTC »
I am currently going through the hiring process to become an ATC. I took the AT-SAT and was then asked to choose terminal or en-route.  I chose terminal but they assigned me to center.  Has anyone had the same experience?  Why give people a choice if they are going to assign you to wherever they want.  I think this may be beginning to understand what everyone talks about when they say "welcome to the new FAA".

Did you, by chance, hear any extremely loud laughing when you advised them of your choice?

Heres a good one. We just got a girl from Tuscon, wanted Tuscon, got RDU. In the same class they had a guy from Raleigh, wanted Raleigh, got Tuscon. They WOULD NOT let them switch. Crazy.

just decline the offer till you get what you want. They'll keep sending you offers until you accept just because they need people.

Thanks everyone for posting! I was completely prepared to go wherever they sent me (location). I did at least think they would give me the facility type preference (terminal vs. en-route) but I guess I was fooling myself

You seem to be pretty sharp--I think you're gonna make it man. I think you're gonna be an air traffic controller.

Just remember this--arrivals arrive and departures depart.

Thanks! Between VATSIM and this forum community I try to stay on top of whats going on in the industry. I guess that's why I wasn't overly surprised when I got an assignment to a facility I didn't want.
