Title: Pilots argue assigned approaches, contact vs. the visual
Post by: Jonathan_tcu on June 23, 2005, 08:19:00 AM
Good day people.  It seems interesting how new pilots who arrive into our northern Ontario airspace don't realize they are no longer radar identified below 10 000 feet AGL.  I am hearing alot of pilots who don't understand they cannot request a visual unless it's requested prior to dropping off radar and are automatically subject to the 'contact' approach.  However, if you're approaching Kap, Earlton or other uncontrolled airspace destinations, the visual IS approved.  Most pilots who navigate northern air spaces, know the routine and request contact approaches in wide open VFR conditions.  --Jon
