LiveATC.Net Featured on CNN
« on: March 22, 2006, 12:10:13 PM »
Did anyone catch the full story about LiveATC.Net featured on CNN on yesterday afternoon (around 5:58 p.m. EST) just before Lou Dobbs' program?

I came in on the middle of the segment and they were talking about some of the unusual 5 letter waypoint names, pilots use for navigation.  In particular they mentioned the waypoints around Kansas City i.e. SPICY, BARBQ & RIBBS used on the KMCI ILS RWY 1R Approach.  http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0603/00780I1R.PDF   In the background they had the website address for LiveATC.Net on the screen but since I came in in the middle of the segment I'm not sure how LiveATC.Net was tied in to the story.

Perhaps someone could follow up with CNN and get a link to the video segment or a transcript of this story and post it on this website.  Hopefully it will bring more listeners to the LiveATC.Net site and encourage more individuals to add their local airport frequencies, for others to listen to on the net.

It would be great if we could get KMCI back on the net also since it appears to have been down for some time!

Hi Jazzypilot,

I also saw the website being surfed in the background last night on that CNN segment.  The original article about fixes named after certain themes originally was written and published in the wall street journal.  I believe CNN wanted to do something similar and they had their spin on the story.

I'll try and find a clip if one is available,
