We passed each other this late afternoon under ROC approach's watch (119.55). I'm not sure if you were paying attention to the call signs but I was in N40060.

Ha, really?  Small sky.  :)  Doing my normal Thursday trip back home.

Right about that point I was busy admiring those 40,000 foot thunderstorms over the southern NY border, although I do recall a Cherokee go whipping by in the opposite direction below me on the east side of Rochester.  Was that your bird?

Yeah...I thought about saying something...then I thought again. With Buffalo, you can get away with a: "Hey, how are you doing." I don't think the guys at ROC would've been happy with me. You know how they are.

I know, I was admiring that beauty myself. We're on our way home from Potsdam (looking at Clarkson University) and could see that monster all the way from Watertown.

Was the airplane red and white? If so, that was me...and I wouldn't exactly call it "whipping." It would be more like a slow 90 kts GS.

As soon as you checked in with ROC, I recognized the tail number.

Good to hear from you,
Greg

Glad to see you are getting use out of that fresh certificate.   Flying a lot these days?  Not much actual IFR this summer for me.  Even with this commuting-by-air thing twice a week I am going to need to hire a flight instructor and go under the hood for some approaches to minimums.  Haven't flown an instrument approach in low actual IMC in a few months now.

I didn't see the aircraft; I was going by the radio calls on the frequency.   The haze yesterday was just enough that I couldn't spot any en route traffic, and this is with a mode S transponder displaying traffic on the moving map to help.  You may have been putting along at 90 kts, but I was screaming <G> along about about 190 kts thanks to the more friendly tail wind, so the closure rate between us was more like 290 kts.

I have pointed this out before, but we really need to get a Rochester, NY, feed up and running.  I was considering approaching Landmark Aviation there on the field to ask them if they would be interested in hosting a feed in exchange for advertisement here (as the other major feeders do), but I have yet to have a need to land there since becoming involved here.  Posting a LiveATC.net poster there might pull a volunteer out of the woodwork, though.  Do you have any contacts there?

Another cool feed would be Elmira, NY, when NASCAR comes to NY's Watkins Glen track.  Elmira/Corning airport hosts something like 300 corporate aircraft during that weekend, which occurs during the second week of August.  If I had equipment I would consider bringing it down there to scan the arrivals and departures during race weekend, but alas the soon-to-be KLAX feed will be utilizing it.

Yeah...unfortunately, that was the first time I've filed IFR without a CFI. It has been either the wx is too good, or I'm working when the wx is good for actual IFR work.

I have no contacts at Landmark. I might be able to post one at Batavia because a lot of the guys there are from the ROC area. Speaking of which, the CAF B-24 (Diamond Lil) is coming to Batavia next Wednesday and Thursday...and giving rides on Thursday afternoon/evening...in conjunction with the Genesee Warbirds.

I've been to ELM a few times...except for that weekend, it's a pretty empty place.
