Obama at Burbank?
« on: October 21, 2010, 06:48:18 PM »
One of our customers just told us that they were told that they are not allowed out of their building at Burbank Airport tomorrow afternoon 12:30-5:30 due to President Obama's visit.  I just saw on www.totaltraffic.com that something similar was reported on KFI radio today.

I am curious whether the runways here are long enough for AF1, or whether they are using Burbank just for the helicopters.  Since I work at the north end of 15/33, I would love to get a look at AF1 or just catch the motorcade if they are going to be in the area.  The only street closures that have been announced are in the area of USC where he is scheduled to speak.

The last time the President was in town, he took a lot of flack for the massive traffic jams that resulted, so they are promising that it won't happen again.  Presumably that means using helicopters instead of motorcades.

In any case, I think I'll be listening to my KBUR feed tomorrow  :-D

That's what it's sounding like.  Someone just came back from lunch and said there are cops all around the airport.  I'm listening to the KBUR feed and it sounds like they are dealing with a lot of helicopters right now.

Got a great look at the two Blackhawks and Marine 1 as they came in.  Someone else said they saw two Marine 1 helicopters, but I only caught one.  They practically flew right over our building.

It was very interesting listening to the planes that were stuck in patterns while the airport was shut down.

I'm in Las Vegas now, and was listening to the KLAS tower feed. While Obama was traveling, I constantly heard a helicopter being referred to as "Huntsman 2" that was orbiting the area at 2,500'. A Google search turned up Huntsman as a callsign for a Secret Service surveillance helicopter. I've heard "Idaho" and "Omaha" callsigns many times, but this one was new. Anyone have any info on it? Aircraft type? I haven't heard that in NYC before, but when Obama visits NYC I do hear calls for NYPD's N23FH highly advanced surveillance Bell 412 helicopter.
