NYC Airspace Violator
« on: July 25, 2009, 12:25:24 PM »
Good afternoon!

I was listening to JFK this morning as usual when an experimental low-wing aircraft entered the JFK TCA without permission around ~1630z.  The tower sent around EVA638 and NYPD15 quickly appeared on scene to try to ID and make contact with the experimental.  There was some vectored chasing from JFK tower and eventually the aircraft left the TCA to the ENE with PD15 on his tail. They entered into the ROBER sector (125.7) where PD15 eventually made contact with the aircraft.  The aircraft, experimental N5025G, was directed by PD15 to FRG where it made a landing around 1715z.  PD15 followed the aircraft right down the runways and taxiways so he'd be sure to be able to "get some info."  It was quite interesting to listen to live, and I'm certainly glad it appears to have ended without incident (at least for innocent bystanders and the NYPD).

I don't have any clue at all how to edit audio files, but maybe someone else will pick up the slack for me.

Your UTC times don't make sense. Was this 25June or 24June? 1715z would make it 1:15 EDT and it's only 12:57 right now.

EVA638 landed at 11:36AM EDT or 1536z.

I landed behind these guys today at FRG.  Tower kept everyone out of the airspace until they were on the ground.  Here's a picture of N5025G and PD15 at the main terminal ramp.  They landed at about 12:10pm local, 1610Z.

found the audio, editing now.

BTW flight aware is being silly, if you look at the actual flight log you can see EVA being sent around and landing much later at 12:02 EDT

kea-  you're right, but the other guys got the times right.  I was distracted and on my way out the door as I posted it and just wasn't thinking.

Todd- were you that Maule or Cessna that was on downwind when those two came in?  I can't remember the type aircraft off the top of my head but I know she had someone on an extended downwind while that guy came in.  The NYPD helos are superfly.

Maybe the guy can get out of this on the basis that his sectional only depicted the Class B airspace, and not the "TCA".

Apparently it's a 2003 AGUSTA SPA A119.  Quick searches show it's good for about 140kts in cruise.
