Title: Not al flights heard?
Post by: Zackrampage on June 11, 2009, 12:38:50 AM
I don't know about departures, but I have tracked several arrival flights on flight info maps.. and not all are heard on the ATC radio.. For example an Air China flight landed at JFK i was tracking it but didn't hear it.. it'd not that im missing it.. it just isn't there.

Most of the feeds here have a scanner that alternates between several frequencies (JFK has two tower controllers, so two frequencies) and when there is action on two of the frequencies at the same time, you will miss a transmission.

Ok thanks! Is there a way of listening to the 2nd tower?

LiveATC.net only offers the "mixed" feed (there is a limit to the amount of scanners and bandwidth volunteers can provide.) You'll sometimes hear tower 1, sometimes tower 2, more or less at random. If you want to listen to a specific frequency, taking your scanner to the JFK area might be the best solution.

(N.B. New York City has very good coverage on LiveATC.net; volunteers for other hubs are still welcome.)
