Hi Ian,
Of those freqs that were listed, the most popular NY Oceanic HF freq is by far 6577 during the day. Flights departing/arriving northeast area airports such as BOS, JFK, PHL, EWR, etc. will be assigned this frequency first as they proceed southbound. Flights proceeding northbound will also be on this frequency before they are handed back to NY Center VHF frequencies.
As evening approaches they may start using 5550 and then later on into the evening they might use 3455. Eastbound transatlantic flights that depart from southeastern airports you'll typically hear first on 6577 or 5550. When they get past a certain point (I think it's 40 degrees west longitude) they are switched over to 5598 and sometimes 3016 is used as a backup.
I'm from Long Island, New York and all I have is a very long wire connected to my HF radio and it works very well for 6577, 5550, 3455, etc.
One thing I just noticed though, you were asking about Atlantic crossings east to west...most of the European flights coming to North America fly routes that take them further north so the vast majority of those flights will be talking to Gander oceanic and during the day most of that activity can be heard on 8831, 8864 and 8879.
