New ZNY, ZBW, ZDC feed just went live!
« on: March 01, 2012, 09:49:18 AM »
Hi everyone!

Just wanted to let everyone know that a new feed has just gone live.  It covers a number of frequencies from New York Center, Boston Center and Washington Center.  These are frequencies that can be heard in and around the New York Metropolitan area.

Some of the Boston Center freqs (127.825 and 135.8) primarily handle inbound/outbound European oceanic JFK traffic.  The inbound flights start their descent into JFK on 127.825.  The other ZBW freqs  handle traffic flying over the NYC area (124.525 east of NYC and 125.575 north of NYC).  The Washington Center freqs (133.125 and 120.975) also handle NYC overflights as well as inbound/outbound JFK traffic.  The New York center freqs include 133.5 and 128.3.  They typically handle inbound/outbound JFK Carribean oceanic flights.  These flights start their descent on 133.5.  You'll also hear NYC overflights to/from the Carribean on 133.5.  These flights are typically going to/coming from Canada.  For NY Center there's also 127.175 (overflights to the west of NYC) and 125.325 (overflights directly over NYC).

Any questions about these freqs, let me know!

Enjoy listening!  Ron

And to answer the inevitable question before it arises...this feed only picks up the aircraft end of the conversations.  While we try to avoid this in general with feeds, in this case the mix of traffic is very interesting and useful information about traffic flows can still be obtained.

We are working on some feeds for the ground end of some of these sectors, but those may not be live for a while.

Still very interesting listening - thanks and welcome aboard Ron!

If I could put my antenna 50 feet higher than it is now, I would most likely get the ground end of transmissions on 125.575; if I turn the squelsch all the way down, the ground station is barely audible.  You can make out a word or two sometimes here and there, but it's mostly unreadable.  Someday I'll climb on the roof again  :-)

Just a quick update...it seems that ZBW is using 126.225 in place of 127.825 for initial descents of European inbound traffic to KJFK.  I'm not sure if this is temporary or permanent.  Maybe someone else knows the answer to this?  126.225 has been added to the feed.  As mentioned in an earlier post, this sector primarily handles inbound European traffic to KJFK but you'll also hear southbound flights climbing out of KBOS on this frequency.  Southbound flights out of KBOS typically get handed off from 126.225 to ZBW 125.575, then to ZNY 127.175.

Happy listening!

Boston has been using 126.225 for quite awhile now. Seems to be permanent for the present.

Thanks for that info...I had a feeling that was the case.
