New ZAU Center Feeds
« on: May 08, 2020, 11:19:18 AM »
Just a thanks for the new ZAU Center Feeds at DBQ ! From what I have heard so far reception is exceptional, very clear, strong aircraft reception, and no computer noise. One of the best I've heard on LiveATC. I'm curious what type of radio/antenna setup this is using ? I'm guessing it's not an SDR ? I've never heard one that clear. 3 separate scanners ? Very good outdoor antenna ?

It doesn't really matter but I'm wondering why you set up the 118.425 and 127.775 feed in stereo ? I know 118.425 was the old frequency but is it still used anymore ? Maybe a backup now ? And if it is a backup they probably wouldn't use them together, so I suspect that 99.9% of the time you will only hear this feed on one side. Not a big deal just wondering if there was a technical reason it was setup that way ?

Cheers,

JS

JS-

It is a 4-SDR setup with external antenna and amplified RF splitter. Since the "old" frequency seemed to still be listed in a couple of sources it was included. It can be removed completely if we are 100% sure it's not in use anymore. Do you know?

Thanks,
Dave

I'm not 100% sure ? I guess leave it the way it is and we'll find out.

I see there is a published AWOS frequency on 118.425 at Waseca MN (ACQ). This would rule it out being used by ZAU in that area as the coverage would overlap. Probably why they changed it to 127.775 ?
