New Minneapolis Center Radio
« on: March 30, 2016, 09:32:04 AM »
Thanks for the new Minneapolis Center Radio, great to have more ARTCC dedicated radios !

The frequency info. posted seems to be based on older data ? According to the latest info. I have (October, 2014) a few sectors have been changed slightly and renamed.

Minneapolis Center (Sector 72 Super Hi)   128.675
Minneapolis Center (Sector 72 Super Hi)   133.275

There is no Sector 72 anymore. 128.675 is now Sector 18, a regular Hi sector, normally FL240 and above (confirmed from listening). There is now a Super Hi Sector 32 extending from FL370 and above that sits on top of Sectors 17, 18, 19, used as required (rarely it seems). So far I have not heard Sector 32 in use and have not been able to confirm the frequency. Anyone know what it is ?

Missing from the radio are the following high altitude frequencies that you should be able to get good reception on. 135.70, 134.25, 133.40, 119.87.

Minneapolis Center (Sector 36 Low) 127.750

Not sure why you have included 127.750, which is far to the south, when you have not included some of the closer adjacent low sectors like 121.025 and 134.850 ?

If it helps at all attached below is my High Altitude Chart for this area with what I believe is the latest info. Any confirmations on Sector ZMP32 appreciated. (you need to be logged onto the website to see the chart, and if you click over the small chart below it should open full size in the thread).

Is there anyway to adjust the scanner speed on this radio (if it is a scanner ?), it seems to be very slow and the beggining of a lot of transmissions are getting clipped (missed) ?

Disclaimer: I'm not complaining, great to have the radio, just some observations.

I knew some of the data was old...just wanted to get some placeholders in there. I'll update that radio today with these suggestions. Thanks for the updated info!

Hi dave, thanks for the quick reply. Just wondering if there is anyway to run a couple of test configurations for a couple of days sometime ? Like a day or so with just only High Altitude frequencies then a couple days just with only Low Altitude frequencies ? Just to figure out the area, it's kinds overloaded when both high and low are on there at the same time. If it's possible and not too much trouble.

Test config 1 - High Frequencies

133.750
135.700
127.425
134.250
128.675
133.400
119.875
ZMP32 (if you know what it is)

Test config 2 - Low Frequencies

134.300
133.700
132.350
125.500
135.000
121.050
134.850

Much appreciated if you can do it, thanks !

JS1 that missing frequency may be 133.075. If I remember correctly from listening on other sites to this area that may be the one you are looking for . Its been maybe 8 months since I can verify that one . 123.725 can maybe be added to the test feed . Lot of In/Out bounds into MSP on that one.

From what I remember 133.075 used to be High Sector 18 and 128.675 was the Super High above it. So maybe they just swapped them ? After checking the archives from yesterday they did not appear to use Sector 32, and Sector 18 was definitely 128.675, so still trying to confirm it.

The ZMP NATCA website has good Area descriptions, but don't list frequencies ...

"Area 3 consists of 7 sectors. 3 low altitude sectors (7, 8, 9) that work traffic from the surface up to FL230, 3 high altitude sectors (17, 18, 19) that work traffic from FL240 and above and a super-high sector (32) that can be positioned above any of the high altitude sectors.  Area 3 is primarily an arrival/departure area that works with M98.  The majority of the traffic is either aircraft being sequenced for arrival from the south or west or departures from M98 to the south or west.  Another daily responsibility is working traffic into and out of several small airports such as Willmar MN, Marshall MN, and Mankato MN as well as providing VFR flight following.  The area is adjacent to and requires coordination with ZMP Areas 2, 4, and 5 as well as M98, RST, and ZAU."
