Re: NY TRACON controller with a question

I can't answer with absolute authority, but from what I've heard, you won't get to hear any particular frequency exclusively unless the feeder has set it up that way. And since there's more possibility of "dead air" if a scanner is limited to only one frequency, most of the feeds will be scanning a number of frequencies. It's a disadvantage, for instance when you're wishing to hear every single transmission of some particular exchange between ATC and aircraft, because sometimes the scanner has tuned to another freq by the time one of the parties replies, but that's the way scanners do things...

BTW, welcome to the site.

Are you enough of a character to gather your own fan club, like some of the controllers?   :-D

Hello all, I am an air traffic controller at NY TRACON in the JFK sector.  Seems like you people really know what you are talking about.  Saw a thread pertaining to the frequencies at the Kennedy sector at the TRACON, and someone did their homework.   :-D

Anyway, I found this website today and found it very interesting.  How would one go about hearing a particular position in the sector?  That meaning, can I listen to CAMRN (127.4) by itself, or is it mixed together with ROBER, DPTR, and FINAL?

Any info would be appreciated, and in exchange I'd be happy to answer any questions about air traffic control at JFK and the TRACON.

Hi there,

Since we were fortunate enough to set-up numerous JFK feeds, you can listen to CAMRN, ROBER, ROBER satellite, Departure, and Final sectors separately.  Most other feeds (at other airports) have the approach frequencies mixed together, but the set-up at JFK is really fantastic and the feeds scan a dedicated sector.

Departure: http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/kjfk_dep.m3u
CAMRN: http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/kjfk_app_camrn.m3u
ROBER: http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/kjfk_app_rober.m3u
Final: http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/kjfk_app_final.m3u
ROBER Satellite: http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/kjfk_app_rober_misc.m3u

Hope this helps.  If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Talk to you on the frequency,
