New Feed - YPDN - Darwin, Australia
« on: May 03, 2006, 08:31:33 PM »
You may have noticed my new feed has just been added to the site.  Darwin is an international airport on Australia's north coast (near the Timor Sea).  Qantas is the major airline flying both domestic and international routes.  There are several other domestic and international airlines.  Darwin also has a large number general aviation aircraft.

Uniquely, Darwin International Airport is co-located with a Royal Australian Air Force base - RAAF Base Darwin.  This is why you will hear "Both cables down" or "Departure cable up" which is passed to foreign aircraft and all military aircraft on landing and take-off.  The cables are obviously only raised for military jets like F-18s and F-111s.

Please leave any feedback you have on the feed or any questions or other comments.

Sadly no, we are too far from the US to get direct flights (It would be 18-19 hours or so).  They all connect in Brisbane or Sydney.

You will see a lot of Asian flights to and from Australia.

Darwin is 24 hours - so any time is good.  If you are more interested in tracking airlines instead of just GA aircraft, for you between 5:30am and 12:30pm will be good.  However, our busy period is between 3:30pm and 3:30am your time.  Airlines will only make up a small part of the traffic (because there are heaps of light aircraft).
