New Airport near Puerto Penasco, Mexico
« on: September 13, 2009, 03:38:07 PM »
A little off topic but...

Does anyone have updated information on the new international airport being built near Puerto Penasco, Mexico?
We vacation every year in that area near the sea of cortez, and as of now they lack REAL commercial air service. So it's long drive.

But I have seen pictures and some info on a new, privately built airport with the name i believe of Mar De Cortez Airport. I found a few pictures of the site, and it looks like the all concrete runways have been built, but no terminal. But it does say the terminal will be finished by this September.

Anyone have updated news?

Rob

si, se esta construyendo uno (aunque ya habia uno en Punta Peñasco) cuenta...

sorry, started writting in spanish, then remembered that should be english so...

Yes, one is being built (altough there is one already at Punta Peñasco) it will be a 2500 meters
runway (8530 × 148 ft)  and a platform with 3 spaces class D, because it´ll be at sea level
airbus 330 and even 747 will be able to land here (I hope)

distances and times:
Puerto Peñasco - Tokyo = 5028 nm (11 horas)
Puerto Peñasco - Beijing = 5705 nm (13 horas)
Puerto Peñasco - Londres = 4746 nm (9 horas)
Puerto Peñasco - Manchester = 4606 nm (8.5 horas)
Puerto Peñasco - Madrid = 5014 nm (10.50 horas)
Puerto Peñasco - Frankfurt = 5045 nm (11 horas)

its the first built entirely with private money by Vedanta Capital Group

runway was inaugurated september 2007, and the terminal,
sometime between 2010 and 2012
