Title: Missed approach at EHAM on 27th March
Post by: leiar on April 07, 2014, 12:45:11 PM
I was on a flight to Amsterdam recently and on approach to RWY 36 we executed a missed approach (according to FR24 data, when we were at 1000 feet, we went sharp to the right, went around and landed on the second attempt. Naturally, I am curious what happened, so I went to the archives here but was not able to find the correct feed (if it was recorded). Can anyone help, please? It was Flight KL1352 and the missed approach happened some time between 10:00 - 10:30 UTC on 27th March.
Thanks!

I was trying to find this flight on flight radar 24 but it didn't show any history before 3/31. And Flightaware doesn't show that klm1352 operated on 3/27. That doesn't mean that it didn't, I just couldn't find it. Is it possible it was a different date or maybe a different flight number? Was it definitely between 1000 and 1030 UTC and not 1000 and 1030 local time?

Here is the flight on fr24: http://www.flightradar24.com/2014-03-27/10:00/12x/KLM1352/2fb3bad . Flightaware doesn't allow me to go past 28/3. It was before Europe switched to summer daylight saving time, so 11:00 local time was 10:00 UTC, right?

Patience sir, patience  :-)

Yes, you are correct that it would be 10:00 UTC.  I found you're flight in the archives.  I could hear the flight calling the tower and a minute or two later it was given clearance to land.  But after that there was no mention of a go-around or missed approach.  The feed scans more than one frequency so it's possible that the feed was on another frequency when KLM1352 was told to go-around.  I checked both EHAM tower feeds and heard nothing about a go-around on either one.  The feeds were probably on a different frequency when this happened.

Patience has never been my virtue, but I'm still learning ;)

Thanks a lot!
It basically confirms what I have found. I have just heard the ATC instructing the flight to join downwind for RWY36 and then nothing, so I was wondering whether there might have been something I missed.

Anyway, pity, because I am still curious:)
