MIN 1 HOUR DELAY IN YSSY ATC BROADCASTS
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:31:47 PM »
Hi,

When listening to the live ATC YSSY feed in conjunction with watching YSSY 2 radar approach (http://www.iststatus.com/radar2.htm) I've noticed that there is at least a 1 hour delay in the ATC feed. On the radar, a transit  aircraft  through Sydney can land offload/load pax and takeoff again before live ATC broadcasts  it's initial Approach contact.

Why such a long delay?

I am guessing that the radar time is off.  There is no way a LiveATC broadcast would ever be one hour.  It is technically impossible.

With the Radar feed you have to select your region. Select YSSY monitor the aircraft progress while listening to ATC live, there is a definite time difference in the 2. For example UA839 appeared on the radar site at 8.20am (1 Feb 2011) this morning (local DST) It was not heard on the live ATC feed until 8.55am local, by which time it had already landed (as shown on the radar screen)

Assuming you're from the US, keep in mind that while the US is off DST, most of Australia (save QLD, NT) is ON DST, so that may explain that difference. For example, it is 15 hours alone between Boston and Sydney; however this time of year that gets bumped to 16, thanks to DST there and none here; in the summer that drops to 14, thanks to DST being on here and not there.

I'm Australian, listening from Australia, there is still no explanation for the discrepancies in the radar and atc feeds

I just clicked your link ( http://www.iststatus.com/radar2.htm ) and notice they have their own audio feed(s).  I don't see any way to turn it down or off.  I didn't watch long enough to determine how timely their feed is.

Are you sure you're listening to the LiveATC feed or the feed that comes from that page?

Where are the feeds on that site? I don't see any.  Answer via a private message.

Same thing applies. The site you're looking at the radar on, is hosted in Florida. The DST/EST timezone issue still applies. They could be posting things in EST (relative to the timezone their servers are in, not where you are located), while you are on DST down there. Hence, your hour difference.
