NAT-B feed - why won't it work???????
« on: September 01, 2010, 00:21:00 UTC »
I've got all my popular HF feeds saved on my desktop as m3u files and when I want to play one I just drag it from my desktop into foobar and it starts playing the live feed.

On my laptop it doesn't work and it is REALLY PISSING ME OFF  :x.  There is no proper download links for them anymore, they've all been changed into auto-open links and this doesn't work.  When I click on the WINAMP link (the only suitable) one, it opens another window and then opens VLC on its own and starts playing.  Why is it doing this?   What I want is it to prompt a download window but it only gives me this about 10% of the time (why?) and when I choose SAVE AS it always shows nat_atlantic_b and has it pre-filled in as an mp3 file.  I don't want mp3, I want m3u.   If I change the extension to m3u from mp3 it starts downloading a never-ending file in my browser which never ends.  I left it for an hour and it had downloaded 300 meg of file and still going, with no end time showing, just a '?' for duration.   When I downloaded them on my main PC the file size was only a couple of kb.  :x

I just want a constant m3u url saved on my desktop for nat-b feed but it won't let me do it.  There must be some way round this.  Anyone know how to get the damned thing to work instead of all this auto-start bollox?  :x

NAT-B is on:

http://d.liveatc.net/hf_atlantic_b.m3u

You could have seen that by simply mousing over the link.

You can create an M3U file now since it sounds like you know how to do that.  Most people do not do things this way.
The reason different app launch is that you need to sort out your MP3 helper apps.  Yes, it's a mess.  But it's the result of something I have no control over.  To be more compatible with more players the format was switched not long ago.

Also, mountpoints do change, so at some point m3u files stored on desktops will fall out of date.

Dave, thanks for the link.

I got round it in the end by sending the desktop link to a usby stick and got it to the laptop that way, but rather cumbersome.

The mouse-over doesn't work by the way - I already tried that.  It only works on the Real Player and WMP buttons.  The Winamp and Itunes buttons don't do anything when you mouse-over and when you right-click them you only an option to save the image...

I've had the m3u links for CAR, SEA-2, NAT A/C, NAT B, SP and the BDA ZNY feed all sat on my desktop for in excess of 6 months now and they all still work fine when dragged so they don't seem to change too often!  (and I'm definitely not complaining there!).

Cheers Dave.

Dave, have you any idea how to save a new desktop link for SEA-2 please?  For some reason the feed via mtl2 server with I've been using for over 5 months decided to die 2 hours ago and won't restart.  Is working okay via phx server but I can't figure out how to save the link on my desktop to replace the dead mtl2 one - it just auto-starts it whenever I select it.   :?

Tks.

Ah, got you Dave, thanks.  How does 'd' work in relation to the others?  Is 'd' a separate server on its own or does it redirect to whichever server is available/closest/whatever?

It always redirects to an available server.

Okay Dave thanks.  I'll amend all my links to 'd' server then and that should solve/prevent any problems.  8-)
