Hi Dave!

Thanks for the app. I would usually use Pocket Tunes but this is much easier. Works well when I am out working on the AOA in OAK. Will this app be able to be used with the push notification when 3.0 comes out next week so I can still check work emails and listen at the same time? Once again thanks for the app.....

The app works fine under 3.0, but not sure about push functionality quite yet.

Great app, Dave!   :-D

Looks likes Portland, Maine is listed under Oregon.

Thanks...there is a bug fix release that we're just waiting on Apple for.  It will appear for everyone who purchased the app, once Apple releases it.  We've done our part...hang in there.

Man, I just downloaded the I phone app and it’s great, being able to listen to Live ATC while driving, jogging etc, what an awesome thing, I couldn’t help it but think of my good old days. I grew up in Mexico City during the 70,s and 80’s our house was located Right about the point where the airplanes made the final turn to Plaza in the ILS DME 5R Approach, I use to love spending time in the roof of the house spotting, and wishing there was a radio to listen to what the airplanes were saying, but at 13 years old, before internet and in Mexico with no one that knows about aviation to ask it was only a wish, then came the day when my Mom took me to her friends house, while playing with her son we went into his older brothers room and there was an old Radio with allot more bands that an FM Radio, I asked him what it was for and he said that his brother used it to listen to airplanes, I turned it on and my jaw dropped when I clearly heard a Mexicana flight talking, so I carefully studied the radio and determined I was listening to VHF Hi radio above the 108 range, I have to get one I thought, well believe it or not there was a Radio shack store in Mexico city and it was about three blocks from my house, I went looking for one and all they had there was a Kit I had to put together myself, it had a series of resistors transistors capacitors and a tuner connected together through a series of springs, it required a 9 volt battery and a ear piece, the antennae was a wire strung out the window, it worked great  I used to take it upstairs to the roof  for spotting specially on Mondays and Wednesdays when the Air France Concorde flew over, it was awesome listening to it  and watching it make the turn to final with its nose up attitude trailing smoke from the engines and that unique sound, the years went by and I went through a series of Radios as technology and my wallet grew, now I’m a pilot myself flying corporate it the US and still enjoy listening to ATC, the I phone app is the greatest yet,
Thanks and keep up the great work.

Jose

Its great to listen to MMMX from so far away, thanks to Live ATC and the feed providers for the oportunity. :-)

Great app.  Although I had some feeds set up in fstream, I bought the app and I am glad I did.  However, the one thing I was looking for and that would completely differentiate it from other feeds is the list of the top channels being listned to right now. Can you please add this feature?

Great.  For the casual listener it helps alert one to interesting feeds.  The iPhone is replacing my laptop; pulling up the website is not ideal.

just out of curiosity for any of you liveatc app users - have any of the streams stopped playing resulting in having to press the play button again? it keeps happening to me every 30 or so mins.
just wondering if it's my connection that's playing up.

Absolutely FANTASTIC!

I have just purchased! This is so much more reliable than FStream - Sometimes it would take about 6-8 attempts to connect only for it to disconnect a few moments later.

Fantastic work Dave!

Just a quick question:-

How does this app differentiate between operating on 3G and WiFi?? I just want to make sure when I am streaming and I am connected via my WiFi I am not chewing into my 3G data ....

Cheers,

Julian

Hmmm...that is an iPhone issue.  We use whatever the active network connection is.  If it's WiFi, then we stream over WiFi.

Bought this today, great way to listen to some feeds while on the go. My only comment (apart from I'd like to see more feeds from the website!) is that, for the pilots amongst us, I'd like the option to get more info such as the frequencies etc, especially where one feed does a tower and an approach, be good to know I am getting both rather than just one.

Looking forward to seeing the app evolving.

The descriptions will get better updates as time goes on.  Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Dave,

Again love the app, but after two weeks of the app I have a question about the KOAK feed. I use the app all the time when I am on the ramp, and I noticed a difference with your app and pocket tunes app. Since I am on the AOA I use just one ear piece in my left ear so I can hear the South Field. I know that the North Field / South Fields are split, but when I use LiveATC app I can only hear the tower in the left ear bud, but when I listen using Pocket Tunes with just one ear bud (Left) I can hear ground and tower.  Any idea why that is?

I don't know, but it must have to do with the way we're handling the audio stream that is different.  We will look into it.  Thanks for the report.

Version 1.0.1 is now available - minor bug fix version which fixes the duplicate city name issue. So Portland, Columbus, and several of the other feeds are now visible.

Next version is in the works - more cool stuff coming.

First of all, thanks for the app Dave.

I do run into this problem listening to the Boston tower and Boston final approach feeds. It tends to cut out after just a few minutes. Oddly, it does not seem to happen when I'm listening via wifi, only 3G.

Other feeds like JFK Tower seem to work fine regardless.

Thanks.  Are you moving or in the same location when this happens?  When you are on 3G or EDGE, you could be getting handed off to another cell, and I am not sure AT&T doesn't reset network connections sometimes.

We'll do more testing and make sure that the connection maintenance is more robust.

I've had the problem when I'm at home on 3G in an area with strong coverage as well as in the car. However, I listened to JFK Tower this morning in the car driving on 128 for about 20 miles with no problems, same as at home. On the BOS frequencies, the audio ends after a few minutes but the app still indicates that it's streaming and the timer continues to run.

The iPhone app (or any player on your home computer) doesn't care which feed you are listening to.  The issue is almost always connection issues, either at your end, or potentially at the feed end.  For example, if there is any blip in the feed's uplink connection, the feed disconnects briefly, and all listeners are disconnected, causing everyone to have to reconnect.

We are looking at whether, and under what conditions, automatic reconnection should be enabled in the player.  Because it is not always desirable.

Thanks for the reports.  An upcoming version (1.0.2) handles flaky connections much better, so that may help your current issues once it is released some time in the next 1-2 weeks.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Boston Tower also stopped running for me after I tuned in about mid-afternoon while driving.  I think I have found that the drops happen when I am driving than if I am in the same spot, so it may have to due with swithching cells.  I will pay more attention in the future.
