Title: LiveATC from inside airplane
Post by: jvnanu on July 20, 2014, 08:18:04 PM
Do any airlines have ATC as an option to listen into during the flight? Has anybody streamed LiveATC from their phone during take-off and/or landing? I always thought it would be really interesting! Too bad there aren't clearance/ground/departure streams from Toronto. Could a radio receiver be taken on board to listen? Would that be problematic in terms of safety or other rules pertaining to electronics on board?

The only airline that I'm aware of that can listen to ATC (not LiveATC feeds) is United Airlines, Channel 9 of the entertainment system. You can find examples on YouTube.

Disclaimer: I've never flown United Airlines before.

I have not encountered an airline where you couldn't stream ATC from LiveATC - if you have WiFi access on the plane.  They block the high-bandwidth streaming sites, however.  We use low-bandwidth streaming so it is not an issue.
