I am pleased to announce the initial launch of LiveATC for Android. I realize this has been a long time in coming, but the reasons for that delay are many and varied.
LiveATC for Android is now available in the Android Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.liveatc.liveatc_app&feature=search_result
Enjoy!
I am sure there will be bug reports - please document any issues you find and submit a bug report via http://liveatc.net/contact with as many details as you can provide, especially the type of device and what network you are on.
-
Looking forward to it! 8-)
-
Finally!!!!! So far its running great for me!!!!!!
-
This is awesome! I can't wait to try it out! Think you can offer a discount for feeders, Dave?
-
Dave - Thanks for the personal response. On second thought, you already put your personal time and money into this project. Thanks for the offer but I'll just consider it a small donation :-)
-
Great application!
-
You might want to also mention in your announcement that it costs $3.00
-
Maybe this is by design, but after 5 minutes of the screen being off LiveATC automatically stops. Is that something that can be changed? (I don't have the sleep timer box checked)

Definitely not by design. Please send in a bug report to androidsupport <at> the site domain name. Please include your model of phone and what version of the OS version you are running.
Thanks,
Dave

App works great Dave! Well worth the $3.00!! 8-)

LiveATC for Android (v1.0.1) now available: http://t.co/RfqJaiS
- odd crash fixes
- external storage enable
-
Oh, ignore the bug I just filed. I didn't update it yet!
-
It works VERY well, been waiting a long time for this. Loads feeds much more quickly than the other streaming app I used. Great work. :-D

I have the same issue right now after the patch.

@ eltors0
My cut-outs seemed to be caused by inconsistent cell tower connections while driving. Sitting still with a strong signal seemed much better.

In a future release we will improve the resiliency of bad network connections.

LiveATC v1.0.2 now available as an update in the Market!
-
Great job on the app, Dave !! Well worth the wait...
-
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!
Awesome, now I can copy clearances while sitting in traffic on the 405!

Well the last thing I am gonna do in my life is getting something like A(cough)pple.... or similar non Simbian operating system... Buying apps??????? Nokia tried it with Ovistore... yeah right ! Not me!
-
alltheway - brilliant post. The first thing you really should do is some research on your friend Nokia. Seems like Nokia has tired and failed at a lot more than Ovi Store.
App works great for me, I have noticed the stream has reset but it keeps going. Second app out of about 80 that I have purchased.

Is there anywhere else to download this app from? I am using a Pandigital tablet and it won't let me download anything from the Android market for some stupid reason. Could someone maybe upload it to www.freewarelovers.com/android/apps This seems to be the only place I can get them from

It is only available from Android Market at this time: https://market.android.com/details?id=net.liveatc.liveatc_app
It may be available from other sources in the future, but not soon. We are still working out some app issues and don't need the additional hassle of having to update the app in several marketplaces.

Hi Dave - first off, I LOVE the LiveATC app for Android. I bought it the minute you announced here. I think your price was very fair. Apparently people complaining here don't have a fundamental understand of network technology and what it takes to make your whole system work, or they'd realize what a deal they got. LOL.
Anyhow, so I'm curious, do you have any plans to work on a tablet edition? I don't think there was one for iPad either, but I just sold that hunk of junk and bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. I think the coolest feature would be to have a tablet optimized app where on the left side is the player\airport list, and then on the right side is an open space for viewing airport diagrams. I absolutely love your integration of the airport diagrams from the FAA into the app, and a tablet would provide the most amazing pallet for this type of thing.
Also, it seems like there are a little bit of issues with random stream stops on Honeycomb, is that being worked on? I'd be more than happy to buy the app again on a tablet edition for $10... so I think you could definitely get people on board.
LiveATC is by far my most used app on my phone and now my new tablet :-)
-
Thanks bella92108 - we are hard at work on a special iPad version. No plans for Android tablet-specific version at this time but it will come eventually. The market is still new and we're waiting for a few things to stabilize, especially certain issues with Honeycomb.
Thanks for the feedback.

Yep, it's still buggy. I think Android will win in the tablet market too, it'll just take some time. Android is already leading in the Smartphone war, but the tablet OS is sooo new. Thankfully LiveATC works great both as an app and using the flash player native to Android Tablet :-)
Thanks again for a great product!
-
Nice app indeed. Interface is especially good. I'd love to see a feature to save streamed content to a file btw.

HEY All..love the app---works great on LG ALLY ...and just in time for OSHKOSH!!!
BUT...
there's no QUIT button?...am I missing something?
Obviously the timeout feature works...but can't QUIT the app?
Advanced APP TASK KILLER won't kill it, even when it's checked.
Although I love the app...and I guess we all should never shut down such a wonderful product...
there comes a time, when we just need to QUIT?!
THANKS
-
Maybe you are new to mobile apps. Most of them don't have quit buttons. To stop playing a stream, ust use the same button you used to start playing - go back to the player in your task list, hit the square stop button. That's all you need to do.
Remember, Android and iPhone devices are not like your desktop computer. Most apps do not need to be quit - and you should be able to kill it in the task manager *if you really want* - but it is not necessary, since the app does not consume resources when not playing a stream.

Any Gingerbread update? I'm getting force closes when loading streams.

1) Go to the Android Market
2) Search for "aLogcat"
3) Download and install the free app called "aLogcat"
4) Launch aLogcat and go to the menu and select "clear"
5) Launch the LiveATC app and reproduce the issue you are having.
6) Go back to the aLogcat application and go to the menu and select "Send" and email it to me (dave @ site domain)
Thanks,
Dave

I've had the app since it was released..Excellent work. I live in Delaware and drive to Philly for work. It's now a habit of mine to fire up the app and plug it into my car's auxiliary jack and listen to Tower as I drive right by PHL. In fact the other day I made a video with my phone just off runway 27R as a plane was landing...You can hear the app in action in the background. Sorry about the video quality..forgot to set the video to 720P on my EVO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b1cx8Lmc64

I thoroughly enjoy the app, just one question. Are you planning on integrating the "Interesting Recordings?" I like listening to them, and sometimes I just can't get to a computer. But, many Thanks for getting the app for Android posted.

It is on the "maybe" list. Same for archives.

Anyone had any luck with this on the Kindle Fire? I am loving this little tablet, Thanks!

Anyone had any luck with this on the Kindle Fire? It's not available on the Amazon store.
It will be there within a few weeks.
-
yayyy, thanks Dave! :-D
-
Any update on the Kindle Fire version? Thanks,
Steve
-
There was an unforeseen delay but hopefully later this month.
-
Do you know if the current Android version (APK) will install and run on the Fire?

We will be testing on the Kindle Fire soon. Finally have access to one for testing.

It will not be out on the Kindle for a little while. Amazon does not support the Google Maps API and I have decided it makes no sense to have a special build ( and eliminate functionality) just to get around that. They claim they will support it some time so I would lobby Amazon to accelerate that support.
-
I've heard the Fire has 50% of the Android tablet market so I hope noone beats you to the punch!
Steve
-
Right now there are no 3rd party applications allowed to use the service so that isn't an issue. As I said, as soon as Amazon gets their act together, there will be support. If they won't, then we'll have to release a special version, which would be less than ideal.

Just bought this app for my coby kyros tablet through the amazon appstore, but it won't install, i have my location set up and I'm on a constant wireless network. Any tips or info?

First step is to contact Amazon Tech Support...they deal with installation issues.

For anyone asking about the Kindle Fire - all you need to do is enable flash in the settings of your browser. That should allow you to stream. For whatever reason it is defaulted to off.
Edit : I do see now that unless you have that tab open you cannot steam and browse other webpages at the same time...
