LAX Tower VHF Antenna location?
« on: January 22, 2010, 05:52:18 UTC »
Out of curiosity, is the LAX Tower antenna for both the North and South complex located on the control tower structure itself? Or is the antenna located at a remote spot somewhere else on the airport grounds? Attached is a snapshot I took of the behemoth. I do see antennas up there but are any of these the VHF antennas the tower uses on 133.9 and 120.95? :?

the antennas on top of the tower cab are for receiving only. the transmitting antennas are remoted somewhere else on the field. this prevents interference.

Thanks captkel! I was over at the viewing area by the In'N'Out Burger with my handheld and I noticed that the tower transmissions were coming in weaker than I expected even though the tower was plainly in sight.

I have been wondering this for a long time. So far I haven't found the answer as to the location.  I know that there are rotating "radar" dishes just north of the 24's near Lincoln Blvd. South of the golf course. I have golfed there many times.  Maybe they are located there?
