Controllers' View of LiveATC?
« on: May 11, 2008, 02:13:52 UTC »
So what do controllers think of LiveATC in general? Do they like it? Do they love it? Hate it?

The more I think about it, the more I realize it can go either way. I'm aware that we do have a lot of actual controllers as part of this community but it may be a mixed feeling type of thing.

I am a controller and I love it. Like to listen how they do it at other facilities across the country. Plus it allows me to listen to feeds where I have buddies working at, so that is pretty cool!

then when you hear them screw up you call them and laugh at them!

I am naturally at the crossroads of a lot of feedback.  The overwhelming number of controllers like it and use it as a training tool.  Anyone who is serious about their trade, be it pilot or controller, avails themselves of all possible training avenues.

I have done that on more than one occasion!

Really , I just read the fourms. I hear enough air traffic chatter everyday at work, but for somebody on the outside, I think its great. My mom is on here all the time waiting to hear me train on zme 128.47.

Interesting. It's nice to know that many people out there think what you do on a daily basis is cool enough to listen to in their free (and not so free) time. On the other hand, mistakes can get really public really quickly. But if you're good (like that tower controller that handled the mid-air near my airport--kfrg--a little while back) you look like a hero.

I'm hesitating approaching any of the local tower controllers during airport meetings to tell them that I run the feed because I I'm not sure how they'll react. Maybe I'll chat with them about it next time.

Thanks!

Marco
