Kennedy Ground, how are they split up?
« on: February 13, 2009, 10:06:58 PM »
I was wondering when Kennedy Splits up ground control  between two controllers one on 121.65 and one on 121.9 which one covers what area of the airport.  Is it just as simple as north and south, or is it by runway like the tower frequencies? Not sure if this question was answered in a previous forum.

During the busier evening times, for departures, JFK uses 121.9 more as a Metering frequency rather than ground.  You'll call them when ready to taxi and they'll say to monitor 121.65.  Then 121.65 will give you taxi instructions out to the runway.

During the other times of the day, 121.9 is purely the ground freq and 121.65 isn't used (it is just simplexed in, not sure if that is a word, but you know what I mean).

121.65 is simulcasted on, or "combined up" with 121.9 during other times.

Haha, thanks Dave!  I knew simplex wasn't the right word to use.  Simulcast just wasn't coming to me.

When dual ground control procedures are in effect, 121.65 owns taxiways A and B, adjacent intersecting taxiways, any taxiway southeast of 4L/22R except for the portion of Y and ZA east of 13L/31R, and all inactive runways.121.9 owns taxiways P, Q, R, S, C, E and all adjacent intersecting taxiways, and the portions of Y and ZA east of 13L/31R; and is also responsible for all vehicle traffic and sequencing departures.

Hope this helps
