any idea why runway 24R is closed at LAX? does anyone know how long it will be closed for?

Yep. Taxiway construction. adding highspeed taxiways between 24R and 24L. Also noted in the NOTAMs:

All times listed are local time. They will be doing the same to 24L/6R when the construction from 24R/6L is complete, so this will be a 1-2 year long project.
