AVON PARK FLORIDA MIAMI ARTCC ERROR LISTING
« on: November 18, 2017, 09:19:00 AM »
You guys have listed 127.2 as a HIGH ALT frequency when it is not. The HIGH frequency is actually 126.525 which is also located at the RCAG where 127.2 is as well .

Our data shows 127.200 is Lakeland High, 134.550 as Lakeland Low...for part of the day they are combined. 126.525 is a separate High sector - Avon High. What is your information source and where can we reference it?

I livehere in South Florida. Thats my source. I have them programmed into my handheld Dave. 127.2 is LOW SECTOR inbound to TPA from the SW-S 134.55 is a very low sector for VFR TRAFFIC. 126.525 is HIGH....I listen to these . AVON PARK RCAG has 126.525 and 127.2 on it . 127.2 and 126.525 are combined overnight on 132.45 on  the MIAMI PAHOKEE RCAG.

You're both right. The ZMA SOP lists the sector name for 127.200 as "Lakeland High", even though it only extends up to FL230 (usually the ceiling of "low" altitude airspace), call it a "Low High" or a "High Low" sector.  134.55 is listed as "Lakeland Low" and sits under 127.200 extending up to 10,000 feet I believe. As noted the two sectors are frequently combined into 127.20 as required.

In any event, the feeds sound very good. Thanks much for setting them up !

Thanks everyone for all the insight and info. Virtually all US-based ARTCCs use "Low" to mean FL230 and below (with perhaps exceptions here and there based on discrete lateral airspace definitions, like the Lakeland sectors). All the ZMA sector maps I have ever seen call 127.2 Lakeland High, even though under normal conventions it would be called Low (airspace is up to FL230). We try to keep to the convention of High meaning above FL230 and Low meaning below FL230 but most listeners may not understand (or care much about) the distinction. In any case, it's still good to avoid confusion...so there is no perfect "right" answer here in this case. So I think the most correct thing to do is keep the Low/High distinction but add a description in the frequency listing that marks the airspace vertical boundaries. I ran this by a ZMA controller and he concurred.

Another "reference" if anyone is interested - some flash cards for controller training/study regarding these two sectors:

Thanks for the heads up on this, Mike.
