Bullhead City, Arizona
« on: January 20, 2015, 02:13:40 PM »
Hello members.  My first post.
I use to live in Northern California and I monitored U-2 traffic out of Beale AFB from Oakland Center.  I now live in Bullhead City, Az and I am looking for some high altitude freqs for this area.

Welcome aboard!

You are about 45 miles southeast of a Los Angeles Center transmitter facility that is up pretty high.  You might have a path to hear those frequencies if you have an outside antenna.

Here are some VHF frequencies to check out for ZLA:
118.02500   ZLA53  Sector 53 Hi
124.20000   ZLA07  Sector 07 Low
124.85000   ZLA08  Sector 08 Low
127.35000   ZLA36  Sector 36 Hi
132.50000   ZLA17  Sector 17 Low
134.65000   ZLA06  Sector 06 Low

I believe that's your best bet for hearing both sides of any Center comms.

Hi Reever,

Quote
118.02500   ZLA53  Sector 53 Hi

This Sector 53, directly overhead Bullhead City and extending from FL240 to FL330, usually seems to be combined into Sector 35 on 128.075. When the sectors are combined the controller might (?) still be broadcasting on 118.025 but if you are not hearing any aircraft you will probably find them on 128.075.

Sector 36, 127.350, from FL340 and above, sits overtop Sector 53 and Sector 35. I suspect that when traffic is light or on the overnight shift they combine all 3 together ? Traffic inbound to LAX routing via Peach Springs (PGS) and the RIIVR arrival should switch over from 127.350 to ZLA 133.550 directly overhead Bullhead City.

I'm curious if you can hear the controllers on any of those frequencies dave posted ?

Thank you for the freqs.  Just getting one side of the conversations.
TAW-4 from Corpus Christie, Tx. has returned this year for winter training and I am getting their com with LAC regarding different training areas.
