KLGA Tower question
« on: June 19, 2006, 09:02:21 AM »
I have been listening to the KLGA Tower feed (along with my own feed ) and as the planes leave KLGA I hear the ATC advise the pilot to contact NY departure. I quickly switch over to NY departure but I no longer hear the flight. My question is does LGA have its own departure freq. or do all planes contact 135.9 as shown in the feeder index page?

Thanks

LGA DEP is 120.4(90 % of the time). I have heard a handoff to 135.9 rarely. I believe those are departures to PHL and Bermuda. But the usual is 120.4. After 120.4 the branchoffs are 124.75--South and Southeast bound(Eastcoast and Florida destintations,120.85 SW AND W Bound deps(ATL,DFW,West coast Florida,STL,CVG,IND,MDW,AND SUCH), 118.175(NW Departures), and 126.8(NE DEP'S eg. BOS)

If it helps you can view the published standard instrument departure (SID) procedure off the FAA website at the following links:

http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0606/00289LAGUARDIA.PDF

http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0606/00289LAGUARDIA_C.PDF

To elaborate on NYARTCCFANs post above, and from what I know, after 120.400 flights filed via the departure fixes MERIT and GREKI handoff to 126.800; via COATE, NEION, HAAYS, GAYLE handoff to 118.175; via BIGGY, DIRPE, LANNA, PARKE, ELIOT, handoff to 120.850; via WHITE handoff to 124.750.

I'm not sure, and any of the New York experts please correct me, but I think after 120.400 departures via BDR.BAYYS (used for turboprops only) go to 133.100 ? I have heard LGA turboprop departures routing via JFK.V1.WHITE (apparently not on a published SID) working 135.900, but I'm not sure if this is a standard route or one used only by ATC when required ? Jet departures over SHIPP and WAVEY transit via JFK as well, but I suspect the frequency after 120.400 would depend on the departure runway ? Maybe to 135.900 or directly to New York Center on 128.300 ?

They handoff to either 133.1 or 124.07 depending on the aircraft's altitude.  If the aircraft is climbing fast enough and is around 17,000, they'll just handoff directly to ZBW.

My best guess for this one is that the aircraft was /A or /U and couldn't navigate direct to the fix.  If he was routed by V1, then he could because WHITE intersection is on the airway (V1).

You're correct, the SHIPP and WAVEY departures are turned south and then get handed off to 135.9.

Jason

Just watching the traffic it looks like they do it to keep the turboprop departures out of the way of the jets flying the SID via WHITE. So far the only scheduled turboprop departures I could find that file via JFK.V1 are to CHO and ORF, so not a very busy route. Just listening this morning to departures off runway 31, about 4 minutes after the handoff to 120.400 you'll hear them checking on 135.900 climbing to or level at 7000, the 135.900 guy keeps them at 7000, clears them direct JFK.V1, then hands them off to approach on 124.750 a few minutes later.

Heard a couple off runway 31 via WAVEY (to MIA), 120.400 clears them to 8000 then hands them off to 135.900.

Also noticed 135.900 was handing off JFK departures north/west (via GREKI, GAYEL etc) to 124.950 this morning instead of the usual 126.800. Temporary sub or permanent change ?
