KSEA
« on: October 24, 2005, 04:55:26 PM »
New listener, first time poster.

I just noticed we have a KSEA feed up. Nice, I use to listen to Seattle
Center on another site but it went down several months ago. This feed is
a bit noisy, and doesn't include approach/departure, but is still
a great thing to have.

From my office here at work (RealNetworks) I overlook the Puget
Sound and the Southern approach path for KSEA and KBFI. Would
love to have a KBFI feed. :-) There is a lot more traffic for KSEA,
but I get to watch the new Boeing 777ER flying around and into
KBFI on its flight tests.

Anyway, great sight and good work all.

Hi Greg, welcome.  I came over to this site when that other feed (microvoltradio via Live365) went down...I've been waiting for the day when we had at least some SEA feed, and this is a great start.   Sounds to me that at least some of the approach and departure freqs are included.

Terrain around here makes reception a challenge...I've got great scanner reception from my house of arrivals from the east, but only pilots no controllers.   From your Real Network location you probably have great reception of both --- maybe you can supply a feed   :P

From your photo I'm guessing --- Galvin Flight School?

Mike

Yeah, after I listened to if for more then a minute or two I heard
controllers passing people off to the tower. This feed is nice
because you do get to hear the tower. I like that.

I have been looking around for a scanner. Can't decide if I want
a handheld or not. I really like to stop at airports while traveling.
So a hand held would be nice for that.

Yup, I have 41 hours. Was just going to do my check ride with
the FAA when I went on vacation. When I came back my instructor
had gotten a job with Horizon flying Dash-8s (nice plane BTW).
With having to get a new instructor and kind of running out of
money :-) I just have not been back. Really miss it, was so
close to. That photo is me back on the ground after my first
solo.

Good stuff.  I hear ya about the cost of flying and the instructor leaving; after the 9/11 hiring freeze thawed, just about every instructor I knew was picked up by an airline.   I initially stopped right about at the point you did...then resumed later when time & money were available.   Never say never...

I guess the static and stuff was just on that first day I was listening. These last two days have been just great. Last night walking home listening on my phone was fun because of the big wind storm we had here. I could look up and see the planes on final and hear, "winds 24 @180 gusts of 35, united 737 reports +/- 10 knots below 800ft." Must have been a nice ride. :-)

I think this feed is a lot better then the old one which did not have any tower freqs.

So, whoever is running this feed, great job! If you are here, where is the setup at?
