Title: KMIA - bird ingestion!

I am listening to KMIA and I've just heard the controller tell AAL749 to expect vectors for runway 12 (instead of 09) because of a bird ingestion by another aircraft... Does anyone know anything else?

The aircraft is returning to MIA. It might be AAL903 (MIA-CCS), A300-600.

Confirmed, AAL903 returned to KMIA.

Unfortunately it KMIA isn't in the archives yet...I don't suppose you were recording it..

Just like our aerodome where the notam is published on the ATIS "Numerous large birds of all shapes and sizes in vicinity of all runways, use caution"  Sometimes you have the sandhill cranes, flockes of geese.  And about a mile or two east of the Sandy Falls beacon NDB, there is wide open farmland where these birds do their thing.

If you listen to ATIS in the northeast, this phrase is pretty much branded into your brain, "Use caution for birds in the vicinity of the XXX airport"

Thanks Jason, I took all of the pics myself.  The latest one was taken last thursday morning just as I was getting to work at 6:30AM.
